A word from our Chairman….

We had a wonderful time at the San Benito County Fair. The quilts were stunning. What an amazing group of quilt artist.

The Clothing and Textiles Department would not happen without all the generous sponsors and volunteers. We are dedicated to making sure that you beautiful pieces are monitored the whole time that they are out at the fair. This was made possible by the volunteers from the Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County.

I would like to thank everyone who helped make the Lettuce Celebrate  2017 San Benito County. Of course, first is Sheila Galindo. She guided me through the fair for two years and has been at my side the two years that I have been chairman of the Clothing and Textiles Dept. Special thanks to one of our newest members Roya Singleton. She came out to help on four days.

Quilters and husbands came out to help. Thank you to Diane Mezekor and Wayne and his friend, also Bradyn and Ernie. Bev Hanagan-Corbin was a generous sponsor as well as coming out to help almost every day.

Quilters and husbands came out to help. Thank you to Diane Mezekor and Wayne and his friend, also Bradyn and Ernie. Bev Hanagan-Corbin was a generous sponsor as well as coming out to help almost every day.  I am gobsmacked at the dedication of Jeanette Perdue and Jeannette Velasquez. They stayed to the end of each day with me to make sure all your quilts were viewed but not touched. Receiving when off without a hitch with the help of Sheron Johnson, Ingrid Leitenberger, Carol Hart, Sheila, Bev and Roya.

Judging was a breeze with the talented judges viewing your quilts. Thank you to Nina Miller of Santa Cruz, Carron Hansen of San Jose, Ronna Gilani of Sacramento and of course my darling sister, Annalisa Tay of Oakland. The volunteers for the two days of judging were so professional. I didn’t have to remind any of the assistants not to talk during the judging — that is the hardest part! The two days of judging couldn’t have happened without Sheila tackling the new job of directly uploading the results of judging as it happens. Bev was a great help righting on all the ribbons. I think that was a nice touch that we have not done in the past. Thank you to our scribes, Dianna Smith and Roya Singleton. Our clerks this year were Sheron Johnson, Patti Kneebone and Diane Mezekor. Runners keep everything going smoothly.  Thank you Cherrie Cilluffo, Karen Coatsworth, Julie Kato, Nadine DeRoza and Julie Young.

Special Thanks to Rod and Karen Twitchell and Jeanette Perdue for dressing in costume for kid’s day.

All the fairgoers loved interacting without quilt monitors during the fair. Thanks to Rod and Karen Twitchell, Dianna Smith, Caron Hanson, Julie Young, Jeannette Velasquez, Jeanette Perdue, Bev Hanagan, Sheila Galindo, Janice Goodman, Anna Berger, Roya Singleton, Diane Mezekor and I sure I missed a few that came but didn’t sign up in the book.

Take Down and Release was a festive event. Thanks to Diane and Wayne, Bradyn and Ernie, Sheron, Sheila, Ingrid, Nadine, Patti, Julie, Karen and of course staying to the last minute again were Jeanette Perdue and Jeannette Velasquez.

It was a great Fair. I can’t wait until next year. Happy Quilting to all!

Irene Towler — Chairman, Clothing and Textiles Department
